Just a quick one from us this week, we thought we would share a picture of David Oyelowo in his Huntsman Tuxedo at the Critics Choice Movie Awards. He took the opportunity to honour Dr. Martin Luther King, whom he portrays in his latest movie, Selma by having the lining embroidered by Hawthorne & Heaney with the words from one of King’s favourite hymns ‘Take My Hand, Precious Lord’.

This new year brings the release of eagerly anticipated new movie ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ starring Colin Farrell, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Kane, Taron Egerton and Mark Strong. By all accounts, it looks to be hilarious, action packed and incredibly stylish (gentlemen out there, take note). Those of you with a super keen eye may have noticed a pair a bit of Hawthorne & Heaney embroidery in the secret accessories/weaponry closet scene (I think we all wish we had one of those!). Expertly made by George Cleverley Shoemakers into a gentlemans slipper our embroidery is going to be a must have accessory for the coming season.

In cinemas nationwide from the 29th Jan!
Our relationship with Cleverley’s has been strong for a number of years with a wide variety of embroidery provided for their slipper ranges from skull and seahorses to monograms. We also provide bespoke monograms for their clients which are hand drawn in a Script or Gothic style, hand painted and then very carefully had embroidered to their specifications.
The world of the shoe maker is something of an unknown entity with strange rooms full of named wooden moulds, hides and hand powered machines.
The slippers featured in the movie are a limited edition exclusively for Mr Porter. Each pair are black velvet in the Albert style with the ‘K’ of Kingsman in a ring proudly decorating the front in bullion. If you’d like to own a pair you had best get onto Mr Porter before they all go. (insert a link)

The Hawthorne & Heaney ladies have been out in force again, this time for Debenhams in the run up to Christmas. They have been bringing our special brand of personalisation to the items available as part of the ‘found it’ promotion.
Cute little embroidery from one of our ladies, stitching the found it label. It seems that personalisation has been everywhere this year and long may it continue! So for now we at the Hawthorne & Heaney team wish you Happy Christmas and we look forward to the New Year!
Hawthorne & Heaney has been working with the swimwear brand, Orlebar Brown to personalise their swim shorts. Engineered in the same way as a tailored trouser, the Orlebar Brown shorts are suitable as both outerwear and swim wear because of their unique approach. This makes them much more versatile than your average garment, more the ‘short you can swim in’ than a swim short.
Orlebar Brown go to great lengths to ensure the highest quality for their garments, each pair of shorts is made of 17 panels and will have gone through 12 stages of hand construction before they are ruthlessly quality checked. Each pair has the classic tailored side adjusters allowing the fit and style to be altered for each wearer and are available in your choice of 4 lengths. This meticulous attention to detail makes a monogram a perfect addition to there garment, cementing the personalised experience of purchasing an pair of Orlebar Brown shorts.
As with all the garments we work on, the Orlebar Brown short monogram is individually drafted, framed and applied before our embroiderers meticulously stitch the initials in Orlebar Brown’s signature font. This just gives the extra personal touch, adding to the luxurious look and feel of these fully crafted swim shorts.
For some time, we have been working with the highly covetable jeans brand, MiH. Building upon rich heritage of the family brand ‘Made in Heaven’; MiH has developed the ethos of creating the most perfectly fitting pair of jeans. They have revolutionised the very weave of denim with their ISKO reform technology and in 2011 expanded into ready to wear to compliment their signature jeans.
Their website is well worth a look if you have a few moments, from it you get a real sense of the design skill and passion that goes into the MiH jeans from the heritage of the brand and its development, to the integration of the ancient dying technique, shibori. This attention to detail extends to the bespoke monogramming service they offer on their jeans with Hawthorne & Heaney. You can choose from a range of fonts and colours for your adopted characters which we will then precisely stitch into your denim.
The monogramming technique we use for the jeans is a little fuller in body than we would usually create for initials being applied to more tailored garments. This gives the monogram a slightly rougher and hardier appearance which suits the denim much better and compliments the wash. The colours available range from the classic combinations of ecru, navy and biscuit against indigo to the more contemporary choices such as copper, charcoal and silver.
Navio ties is a very interesting tie brand that has taken the idea of monogramming and put their own nautical spin on it. Using Flags and Pennants they translate your chosen letters into Nautical Flag symbols, the likes of which have been used at sea for hundreds of years, and apply that to the tie. This creates a beautiful personalised item with a hidden meaning, except for those who speak the language.
The Initials represented by the flags are stitched into the silk of the tie itself which can be produced in 4 different designs. The ties themselves are 100% silk, woven and made by hand in Sudbury, England and then brought to London to be embroidered by Hawthorne & Heaney.
They make a beautiful gift for a distinguished gentlemen, appropriate for any occasion If you would like to learn more about Navio ties or to make your order, visit their website for details.
