Earlier this month, we had the opportunity to work with the lovely people at Monki Jeans on their customisation event. Hawthorne and Heaney were in store stitching for the launch day where customers could have their denim hand embroidered with an initial or a little symbol.
As per our usual event, the customers had a choice of fonts and colours for their personalisation.
Quite a few people decided on the classic white on denim look for their embellishments.
Whilst others vamped up bolder, already embroidered designs with their personal monogram.

This year we were lucky enough to work with a very promising CSM MA student called Andrew Totah. We produced a series of embroideries for him which feature in his final collection which are so vibrant and exciting, we couldn’t wait to share them with you.
Andrew Totah’s collection is based on his travels through South Africa and features a wonderfully vibrant colour palette which reflects the culture. Andrew’s collection is very much about telling a story through his designs so his girls are superheroes of a kind who modify their clothes and empower themselves by take back control of their city in the night.
We produced a series of heavily machine embroidered patches to compliment his collection, all of which were his own graphic designs. Most of the embroideries are raised from the surface of the fabric, that combined with the punchiness of the colours makes a strong impression.
To see more about the collection and the inspiration behind the designs, as well as the embroidery on the garments shown in the show at the end then have a watch of the video below.
New York Designer Alexander Wang has been encorporating embroidered statements into his most recent denim collection so for one weekend only, Hawthorne & Heaney has been providing the embroidery so customers can have their items personalised in the flagship. This took place last month where the Hawthorne & Heaney team rocked up to Alexander Wang’s London flagship with our machine.
All the pieces from the collection had quite provocative slogans encorportaed into them, so customers had a choice of some that had already been featured in the collection, or to modify to their own taste. The below images are from the collection from Alexander Wang Instagram:
For some time, we have been working with the highly covetable jeans brand, MiH. Building upon rich heritage of the family brand ‘Made in Heaven’; MiH has developed the ethos of creating the most perfectly fitting pair of jeans. They have revolutionised the very weave of denim with their ISKO reform technology and in 2011 expanded into ready to wear to compliment their signature jeans.
Their website is well worth a look if you have a few moments, from it you get a real sense of the design skill and passion that goes into the MiH jeans from the heritage of the brand and its development, to the integration of the ancient dying technique, shibori. This attention to detail extends to the bespoke monogramming service they offer on their jeans with Hawthorne & Heaney. You can choose from a range of fonts and colours for your adopted characters which we will then precisely stitch into your denim.
The monogramming technique we use for the jeans is a little fuller in body than we would usually create for initials being applied to more tailored garments. This gives the monogram a slightly rougher and hardier appearance which suits the denim much better and compliments the wash. The colours available range from the classic combinations of ecru, navy and biscuit against indigo to the more contemporary choices such as copper, charcoal and silver.
We know when the festive season is nearly here when the ladies of Hawthorne & Heaney start heading off around town to be seen stitching in all sorts of places. Last month saw the launch of the new Donna Ida Denim SS15 collection to which a few lucky ladies were invited to join the Ida team at the Grosvenor House Apartment Penthouse suite.
It was a very glamorous affair with cocktails by Hoxton Gin and dinner served overlooking Park Lane and one of our ladies monogramming the denim goodie bags for the guests.
All the guest had an introduction to the new collection, modelled wonderfully by the model and staff as well choosing their monogram colour and having a glimpse into their monograms being stitched live.
