Hawthorne & Heaney watches Modern Times: Welcome to Mayfair

It’s only every now and then that a programme comes on to television that really gets us excited, but we couldn’t help but be curious to see what the producers at the BBC would make of our little patch of London, Mayfair. On the 15th Feb, Modern Times: Welcome to Mayfair aired on BBC2 showing the social diversity that exists in Mayfair and the variety of businesses and lives it sustains. So it was with baited breath that we watched to see some of our friends and colleagues as they featured in the show as ‘the craftspeople who keep the wealthy in their finery’.

GJ Cleverley’s the Shoe maker made a significant appearance, demonstration that people are still making bespoke items in the heart of Mayfair, in the workshop above the shop, Burlington Arcade. They make all sort of bespoke shoes including these slippers which feature some of our Goldwork embroidery.

There was also an addition from Keith Levett of Henry Poole who does their Livery Tailoring

For us, it is great to see the focus being given to the independent businesses and championing the craftsman’s trades. It is clear to see from talking to any crafts person that we are all passionate about keeping our craft alive and growing.

Hawthorne & Heaney meets ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’

This new year brings the release of eagerly anticipated new movie ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ starring Colin Farrell, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Kane, Taron Egerton and Mark Strong.  By all accounts, it looks to be hilarious, action packed and incredibly stylish (gentlemen out there, take note).  Those of you with a super keen eye may have noticed a pair a bit of Hawthorne & Heaney embroidery in the secret accessories/weaponry closet scene (I think we all wish we had one of those!).  Expertly made by George Cleverley Shoemakers into a gentlemans slipper our embroidery is going to be a must have accessory for the coming season.

Our relationship with Cleverley’s has been strong for a number of years with a wide variety of embroidery provided for their slipper ranges from skull and seahorses to monograms. We also provide bespoke monograms for their clients which are hand drawn in a Script or Gothic style, hand painted and then very carefully had embroidered to their specifications.

The world of the shoe maker is something of an unknown entity with strange rooms full of named wooden moulds, hides and hand powered machines.

The slippers featured in the movie are a limited edition exclusively for Mr Porter.   Each pair are black velvet in the Albert style with the ‘K’ of Kingsman in a ring proudly decorating the front in bullion. If you’d like to own a pair you had best get onto Mr Porter before they all go. (insert a link)

Hawthorne & Heaney does Bespoke Slippers

Many of you may think its way too early to be thinking about Christmas, but in terms of bespoke gifts, it’s not far away. Our good friends over at Cleverley’s have been busy making slippers that are destined to be Christmas gifts for quite some time now, as have we for those slippers that are adorned with embroidery.

Our director, Claire Barrett has had a pair made for herself with our Hawthorne & Heaney logo across the front, embroidered in silks and bullions.   I have it on good authority that they are incredibly comfortable and hard wearing as well as being very a highly covetable item. They can be made with your choice of emblem on the front, if you have something specific in mind which we can have made into embroidery as we also offer a drafting service.
